L’artiste :
La peintre Marie Besson née à Paris en 1860 a été l’élève et l’amie de Sarah Bernardt, célèbre actrice, peintre et sculptrice française. Elle a réalisé de nombreux portraits d’elle en costume de scène sur porcelaine, son support de prédilection. Elle fut primée pour son travail de portraitiste (Victor Hugo, l’académicien F. Coppee…) mais aussi pour ses scène pastorales, dans de nombreux concours et manifestations à Paris et à L’étranger.
Le sujet :
- - Sarah bernardt (1844/1923) est une actrice, peintre et sculptrice française. Elle est considérée comme une des plus importantes actrice française du XIXe et du début XXe siècle.
  - Première étoile internationale, elle est la première comédienne à avoir fait des tournées triomphales sur les cinq continents.
  - Elle sera surnommée « La divine », « L’impératrice du théâtre » ou encore « Le monstre sacré ».
  - Le costume qu’elle porte sur la peinture est celui de la pièce de théâtre « L’aiglon ». Il s’agit d’un drame en vers d’Edmond Rostand écrit en 1900. Il narre, de façon romancée, les dernières années et la mort du Duc de Reichstadt, fils de Napoléon Ier. Sarah Bernardt , travestie pour l’occasion en tenait le rôle principal.

Origine :
- - Le tableau a été acheté par Sébastien Delcampe lors de l’émission Affaire Conclue diffusée le 20 avril 2023. Il avait été apporté par Claudine, elle en a hérité lors du décès de sa belle-mère qui le tenait elle-même de sa mère.
